Her McDonald's Ice Cream Craving Did Her In

Virginia Maiden works at one of the three McDonald's in Kennewick, WA, population of over 76,000 people. On Tuesday morning, May 14, she got ready for work as usual and left her apartment to drive her SUV to work. But she couldn't. It was gone! Where was it? Confused, she called the police to report her missing car. She didn't earn a lot of money, making just over minimum wage, but she did have a pretty nice car. It was a 1995 Toyota 4Runner.
But now what?  She found another way to get to work, but couldn't help thinking about the incident throughout the day.  What if the police didn't find it? How was she going to get to work for the remainder of the week? All she could do was wait and work. So she did.
At 3:00 in the afternoon, Virginia had just a few hours more before her shift was up. But that is when she got a nice surprise. She just happened to be working the drive-thru at the time, and noticed her car waiting in line. But was it her car?
The woman in the car ordered ice cream, among other things. When the driver got to the window, it was clear. That was the car! What was this woman doing in her car?
So Virginia came up with a quick plan. She told the woman that the ice cream machine was broken but was soon to be fixed. Then she called 9-1-1 a second time, and told them that she had the car parked in the McDonald's lot with the woman in the car, along with an unidentified man. The police came right away and arrested the woman, named Katherine York. The man with her was questioned, but later released.
In the back seat, they noticed some clothes recently gotten from Sears and JCPenny. They quickly realized the clothes were stolen, seeing as the security tags were still on them!
Why do people, like Ms. York, take somebody else's property and shoplift? Don't they know how despicable and degrading that is? Apparently they don't care.
The clothes were returned and Virginia got her car back before she had to leave for the day. That was good!
Oh, and how had she known for sure that that was her car? Well, her McDonald's visor was still in the front of the car in plain view! Why the crook made the decision to go to McDonald's is beyond me, but I'm glad she did!
