This year's mayoral race in the small town of Divide, Colorado, was a little strange. The population of Divide, according to the 2010 Census, was 127. All the votes cast this past April totaled 12,091. What?! I've heard of voter fraud but this is on a whole new level!
Not so fast. This wasn't voter fraud at all. People could vote more than once, but each vote cost $1. All the proceeds went to the neighborhood animal shelter, Teller County Search and Rescue. The candidate named Pa won it all. Actually his full name is Pa Kettle, the same name as listed on his birth certificate.
All the other 10 candidates had no last names or birth certificates. That's because they are all animals! Pa Kettle himself is a bloodhound. He beat out other dogs and cats, and even a hedgehog and a donkey. His biggest rival, which he narrowly beat out, was Kenyl, a wolf. Pa replaces a three-legged cat for the next two years. Sounds like Divide, Colorado, has gone to the dogs!
