The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a government agency, is a biomedical research facility primarily located in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH director Francis Collins said that they most assuredly would have been ready with an Ebola vaccine if it wasn't for budget cuts. That isn't the truth! Do you know what the annual budget for the NIH is?! Over 30 billion dollars!
The truth is that they "dropped the ball!" They could have put millions into Ebola research but didn't! Are you ready for some cold hard facts? Are you ready to see what your money (taxes) is being used for? I can tell you this... not for Ebola research for a vaccine! Instead, over $466,000 was spent on why obese girls have a tough time getting dates. Over $2 million was spent on trying to get older people to join choirs! I don't have any problem with people joining choirs... but I don't want my taxes paying for that! Millions have been spent on text message interventions... $674,000 for a study on texting drunks to see if that helps them to stop drinking, $360,000 on texting meth addicts, and $2,700,000 for texting obese people. The list goes on: $374,000 for fruit and vegetable puppet shows, $5,000,000 for studying how Americans on social media feel about drug abuse, and $571,000 for a study on trying to help heavy drinkers stop smoking. $2,466,000 was given to develop "origami" condoms! The money was later found to have been spent fraudulently. This is just the tip of the iceberg! Finally, the NIH is allocating funds for Ebola research... a little too late!
