Shooting To Save Lives

Shootings happen way too often in the Chicago area - often with sad and horrible outcomes. But on April 17, around midnight, one Chicago shooting ended quite differently.
An Uber cab driver had just dropped off a passenger when he noticed a man walking toward a group of pedestrians. Then the man, 22-year-old Everardo Custodio, suddenly pulled out a gun and began shooting into the crowd!

The 47-year-old unnamed Uber driver, who happened to have a concealed-carry permit and was packing his own weapon, had only a moment to act. He pulled out his shotgun and fired six times, hitting the gunman in the shin, knee, and lower back, but not killing him.
Police patrolling the area heard the shots and arrived at the scene shortly after. Everardo was taken into custody and was treated for his wounds at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Not a single person was killed during this incident, and, besides the gunman, there were not even any injuries. No charges were filed against the driver, who provided police with a valid concealed-carry permit and a firearm owner's identification card.
This is not the first instance where innocent lives have been saved by a citizen armed with a licensed firearm. On March 24, two men got into an argument at a barbershop in Philadelphia. One man pulled out a gun and began shooting. There were several other people in the shop at the time, including little children. One of the customers waiting there that day was a licensed gun owner. Pulling out his gun, he shot the gunman several times, killing him. Police said this man's actions likely saved the lives of several people that day.
