Joann Smith, 49, of New Jersey, took 3 of her 4 teenage children to get some ice cream in the afternoon of April 15. What happened next is unthinkable. After getting back in their van, Smith drove off a boat ramp right into the Delaware River, purposely, like a mass suicide of sorts. The only thing is that the children did not want to die! That is where Darnell Taylor (pictured) comes into the story.
Darnell and his wife were driving by when he saw the van in the river. He stopped immediately. He then heard screaming, and jumped into the river. The van was now totally submerged with the water rising inside quickly. He told one of the children to kick out the window, after which he was able to save all of them, including the mother.
Smith's husband was notified, who happened to have the oldest son with him. Smith was charged with three counts of attempted murder and child endangerment. But thanks to the hero, Darnell Taylor, it was not murder!

Janus Jurisoo (pictured) was shopping at a Florida CVS store on April 13th, when he noticed someone robbing the store. The robber, Freddie Johnson, was demanding a bag filled with over-the-counter drugs. But before he could leave, Janus came up from behind and got Johnson into a choke hold, keeping him there until the police arrived. Although the police captain talked about "not taking matters into your own hands", he was grateful for what Janus did and offered him a job!
