Do you remember James Degorski? He, along with his buddy Juan Luna, was tried and convicted in the 1993 murder of 7 people in the Brown's Chicken robbery. They both got life sentences. Degorski alleged that a guard punched him in the face and broke his cheekbone. Degorski sued the State of Illinois and was awarded $451,000! Has Illinois just lost it?!! And who's paying that?... Illinois tax-payers! Prison officials were seeking to seize the money in hopes of keeping it out of Degorski's hands. I hope they do!
♦ The Bolingbrook Police Pension Board voted March 20 to hold hearings to determine whether convicted murderer Drew Peterson should lose his retirement pension. Just ask me or any sane person... YES, he should lose his pension!!
Not so fast. The hearings might begin this summer, or maybe later. Pension board attorney Richard Reimer said, "This is going to take some time." Seriously?!! And who is paying for the hearings and Peterson's pension checks while he is in jail? You guessed it... Illinois taxpayers!
♦ Now for some good news: Governor Scott Walker signed a $541 million tax CUT, March 24, because Wisconsin has a budget SURPLUS. This is the third time in under a year that he has lowered taxes! Walker said, "Instead of billion dollar budget deficits, we have a surplus. You deserve to keep as much of your hard-earned money as possible... because after all, it is your money." Why can't Illinois do the same thing?!
♦ On a different note, and one that's a little disheartening, the National Weather Committee has released a report stating that since we have had such a cold and harsh winter, spring will be delayed at least a month, and possibly longer. That means we will go from spring immediately to fall, without having any summer at all! What a bummer! Okay, April Fools! There will be a summer.
