![]() Japan is a very modern country, and its scientists are among the world’s leading experts in technology. They produce many things that use technology, including cars, electronics, machinery, and robots... lots of robots. Japanese scientists have even made a robot that looks - and acts - like a human. Called an “actroid”, the robot has skin that looks real, and can talk, smile, answer questions, and do many other human-like things. And soon, some of these robots will get a job! Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park in Nagasaki, Japan, that is modeled after a 17th-century Dutch town. All the buildings are old-fashioned, with canals and old Dutch windmills placed throughout the park. But in this old-fashioned park, there will soon be something very new. Plans have been made for a hotel to open in the park on July 17 of this year. Its name will be Henn-na Hotel (Japanese for “strange hotel”). It will have automatic temperature adjustment in the rooms, in place of air conditioning, and face recognition instead of keys. But the strangest thing about the hotel will be its crew, from the girl at the front desk to the attendant bringing you towels. Robots will be manning the hotel! Seven robots will assist guests with luggage, bring them anything they need, clean the hotel, and do the hotel laundry. Three actroids - that look like young Japanese women and speak four languages - will manage the front desk. The total crew will be ten robots and ten people, in case the robots can’t handle something or the guests want to talk to a real person. Some people would just rather not talk to plastic and metal!
