![]() You know that tornadoes and hurricanes can be very destructive, and that there can be dozens of hurricanes every year. But wildfires are even more destructive, and every year they number in the thousands. In June, Colorado had its worst wildfire in history with hundreds of houses and structures destroyed and 2 people killed. In July, heartache was felt around the nation by the report of the deaths of 19 top firefighters (the Hotshots). The latest devastation has been in Idaho, where over 100,000 acres and dozens of homes have been destroyed. Thousands of people had to be evacuated. At the same time, dozens of fires raged in 10 other states. This year through August 18, there has been over 31,000 wildfires and over 3 million acres destroyed nationwide. But did you know that this is below the year-to-date average? The numbers are not even close. Amazing!
