![]() David Underwood had bought his grandmother's house near Fort Worth, Texas, from his aunt and was fixing it up so he and his wife could move in. The house was valued at nearly $125,000. Well things changed July 12. Actually, it wasn't until the next day, when they changed their plans about moving in. As they came to the property Saturday to cut the lawn they noticed something was different. Actually, his wife said, "David, I think the house is gone!" It was gone! The whole house was missing. The mailbox with their address was still there, but the house was no more, just a slab where it used to be. ![]() After asking around, they discovered a demolition crew had been out to demolish the house the day before. The crew had orders from the city to demolish the condemned house that day on Watercress Drive. The address was 9708. Whoops! They tore down 9716 Watercress Drive, not the house next door at 9708. One look at the condemned house (see picture) and it was clear, they wrecked the wrong house. Someone had messed up here, and bad. The city said that they would do an immediate investigation, and that they would compensate David and his wife. But coming to the defense of the demolition company... they were only off by one house. They were so close!
