America's Favorite Pastime?

There is something in America that is perfectly legal, yet rotten to the core. It has become so accepted, even expected, though it is still criticized and condemned. It has become a major part of society, even for many Christians, being the #1 thing that people look for. And most search for this in the comfort and secrecy of their homes. Many others search for this at their place of work. I am talking about pornography.
There are over 70 million searches for porn done in the US every day - that is 25% of all online searches done in this country! Can something that is legal and so widely used be so bad? Yes! In America, society expects teenagers to view porn, especially "soft porn", to a certain degree, many saying that it's normal. But "soft porn" - which is so common today, from billboards to magazines, racy store ads to R-rated movies - leads to "adult" porn. Adult porn can lead to teenage porn and even child porn, which is extremely appalling and creepy. It also leads to "hard-core" porn, strip clubs, prostitution, human trafficking and more.
What's wrong with adults looking at adult porn? Isn't that okay? After all, it is legal. No! It's not okay! Women specifically are viewed in a very degrading way. Women should be looked on with the utmost respect and modesty, not as sexual objects! People who are consumed with porn look at others in a warped and perverted manner. And too many times, porn leads to sexual harassment and assaults. It's disgraceful! Stay away from porn at all costs. Do not allow it on your computer or in your home. Parents, install a block on computers and other devices to protect yourself and your family from this junk!

Many people, some you would never suspect, are in the news concerning pornography. Jared Fogle, of Subway fame, seemed like such a nice guy. But he has plead guilty to child pornography and other charges. Jared started by viewing "regular" porn. Josh Duggar, although he did not break the law, has fallen from grace, his troubles all stemming from viewing porn. Rev. Timothy Williams, a Baptist minister from McHenry County, was charged with possessing child pornography in August. He got so caught up in it, he couldn't stop. It all originated from viewing legal porn. Raul Guzman, 23, of Park City, was also arrested on child pornography charges in August. These are just a few names which are in the news today.

Globally, porn is a $100 billion industry generated from legal venues like videos, films, sex shops, magazines, etc. The U.S. is in the lead with about $15 billion annually. That makes porn one of the biggest industries in America, employing a multitude of people. And this does not include all the illegal activity related to porn. Most manufacturing jobs have left America, but the government makes a lot of money on porn with all the taxes it collects from many different sources. Add to that the billions of dollars of taxes collected annually from gambling, alcohol, tobacco, and other vices. America has become less a land of opportunity and more a land of indulgence. Not everyone is tempted by porn, or indulges in it, but it's sad to say that it still ranks as America's favorite pastime.
